Early morning visitors!

Since it has been getting colder (and snowing!) lately, the elk herd has started moving down from the higher ground. We've heard them the past few nights, but this morning, Daddy-J was up early and saw this beautiful bull up on the hill above our house.

Apples & Pumpkins!

Today, we went to a farm we'd never been to before to see what they had going on. These pumpkins greeted us as we drove onto the farm grounds.

I had read somewhere that they had replanted all their orchards a few years ago so there weren't any "u-pick" apples yet, but when we got there, we saw that they had a few rows of their old trees left and they were LOADED with apples. The apples were hanging so low that it was easy for the girls to fill their little bags!

We spent some time in their vegetable garden and came home with some tomatoes and cherry tomatoes, a watermelon, a cantaloupe, and a honeydew melon. (We also grabbed 6 ears of corn that was already picked and a half gallon of freshly pressed apple cider). All that cost less than $10!

Then, of course, we had to spend some time in the pumpkin patch, even though it's a bit early for us to bring home a halloween pumpkin!

Tomorrow, I think we'll try making some individual-sized apple crumbles!

It was a beautiful fall day, and I'm really happy with the photos that I got. All of these are straight out of the camera, other than cropping, and I'm finally starting to see some of the crispness and clarity I've been working toward.

Welcome October!
