Demolition has begun!

Two guys from Re-Bath came up today and started demolition on the remodeling project we've got underway. Our little toilet leak netted us a tidy sum from the insurance company, so we're tweaking the budget to add a few little projects to the list that weren't exactly part of the leak cleanup.

For starters, today we tore down the rock wall around the fireplaces in the living room, master bedroom, and family room! We also took out two closets in what was the workout room to make that into a media room. Finally, we cut a new doorway into a wall downstairs to make a public bathroom for the family room.

There were only minor incidents, including: shorting out the intercom/radio system when a hanging wire from the recently removed speaker outlet touched a metal lightswitch box; a badly turned ankle when one workman dropped the heavy trash can that two of them were carrying; a split nose when a piece of two-by-four with a nail in it came down from the ceiling unexpectedly; some cut wires in the area of the new doorway; and a whole bunch of concrete and rock in the family room downstairs because we ran out of steam and time to get it all out to the dumpster tonight.

Thankfully, the demo phase is almost done. All that's left is to take down the bar in between the living and dining rooms and remove the bar cabinets in the family room. I packed up the living/dining room bar, but I still need to get all the stuff out of the family room cabinets.

The drywallers should be here to start on Friday. Daddy J and I are going to try designing the fireplace surrounds we want tonight so I can call a mason tomorrow to get a bid on that.

Then we do painting and flooring and it's all done! Ha!
